Sri Lanka, March 30 -- The All Ceylon Egg Traders Association has warned that egg prices could rise to Rs. 50 again if the government does not intervene to stabilize the rapidly falling prices.

Association president Anton Nishantha Appuhami stated that the continued decline has forced many producers to sell their hens, which could lead to a supply shortage.

Egg prices, which previously exceeded Rs. 60, have been selling between Rs. 25 and 30 for several months. While the drop has benefited consumers ahead of the festive season, it has severely impacted producers.

Meanwhile, the Consumer Affairs Authority has intensified its raids in preparation for the festive season, conducting over 4,800 inspections since the beginning of the year. ...
