Sri Lanka, Aug. 28 -- The expert committee appointed under Cabinet approval to draft the new Anti-Terrorism Act will complete its work by September, according to the committee's chairman, President's Counsel Rienzie Arsecularatne.

A statement from the Ministry of Justice noted that a second review of the amendments to the draft bill is currently underway.

The expert committee was established by the Minister of Justice and National Integration with Cabinet approval to repeal the existing Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act No. 48 of 1979 and draft new legislation.

The new act is intended to address modern global terrorist threats and ensure compliance with international human rights standards.
