Sri Lanka, June 3 -- 34 buses operating from the Hatton bus stand have been banned, following a spot inspection conducted yesterday.
The directive comes from the Nuwara Eliya District Chief Motor Vehicle Inspector, after motor vehicle inspectors and Hatton Headquarters Police, examined 45 buses.
The ban affects 15 state-owned buses and 19 private buses, primarily due to issues pertaining to passenger discomfort, speeding, and steering control.
The Motor Traffic Department says that these buses must be repaired within a month and re-submitted for inspection, or legal action will be taken.
Drivers were also instructed to remove dangerous equipment fitted to some buses.
