Sri Lanka, Jan. 13 -- Medical professionals across all government hospitals in the Eastern Province commenced a strike today (13) to demand the immediate removal of the Medical Superintendent at the Akkaraipattu Base Hospital.
The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) initiated the province-wide action following allegations of administrative and financial misconduct against the official.
Ampara District Organiser of the GMOA, Dr. Janith Peduru Arachchi, confirmed that the strike affects 1 teaching hospital, 2 general hospitals, 17 base hospitals, 52 divisional hospitals, and 113 primary medical centres across Ampara, Batticaloa, and Trincomalee.
