Sri Lanka, Dec. 5 -- The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) released its latest situation report at 6:00 PM, highlighting a dramatic escalation in the national disaster.
More than 2 million people across Sri Lanka have now been affected, totaling 2,082,195 individuals from 586,464 families.
The death toll has risen tragically to 607, while 214 people remain missing. Central districts have experienced the greatest losses, with Kandy reporting 232 deaths and 81 missing persons, and Nuwara Eliya recording 89 deaths and 35 missing.
Housing damage is extensive nationwide, with 4,164 homes fully destroyed and 67,505 homes partially damaged. Kandy district has the highest number of fully destroyed homes at 1,800.
