Srilanka, Dec. 1 -- The Chief Prelates of the Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic jointly established a Social Welfare Fund to support the welfare of people affected by the emergency disaster situation.

Chief Custodian Pradeep Nilanga Dela announced at a press briefing today (1) that the account was launched with an initial deposit of Rs.20 million from the Ubhaya Maha Viharaya and the Sri Dalada Maligawa. Dela explained that the funds will be used in two phases.

The initial phase will focus on providing immediate relief, specifically food and clothing, to the affected population.
