Srilanka, Dec. 8 -- Damage caused by the Mahaweli River overflowing submerging the Peradeniya Botanical Garden is estimated to be approximately Rs. 130 million, states Ruwini Gomes, Deputy Director of the Botanical Garden.

Restoring the Suspension Bridge, which sustained severe damage from a fallen tree, is expected to cost approximately Rs. 80 million alone.

Although the disaster damaged several areas near the Mahaweli River inside the Botanical Garden, the Deputy Director said the garden was able to remain open as usual for both local and foreign tourists.

She mentioned that during the recent past, permission to walk on the Suspension Bridge was restricted to a limited number of people.
