Sri Lanka, July 7 -- A Deputy Commissioner of the Inland Revenue Department was arrested today (7) by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) for allegedly demanding and receiving a bribe of Rs. 50,000.
The arrest follows a complaint lodged by a Piliyandala-based businessman.
According to CIABOC, the Deputy Commissioner had informed the businessman that an institution he operates on Kolonnawa Road, Dematagoda, had outstanding tax arrears of Rs. 1,100,000 for previous years, hindering the issuance of a tax clearance report for 2025.
Initially, the Deputy Commissioner demanded a bribe of Rs. 100,000 to clear the arrears and provide the report, later reducing the amount to Rs. 50,000.
