Sri Lanka, July 5 -- Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Namal Karunaratne, stated that the guaranteed price for paddy will ensure no injustice to farmers.
Speaking at a programme in Kurunegala, the Deputy Minister also warned of strict action against those selling rice above control prices.
Meanwhile, harvesting of paddy for the Yala season has begun in several areas, including the North and East.
Accordingly, the Paddy Marketing Board recently opened government paddy stores only in these harvesting regions to purchase the yield.
Manjula Pinnalanda, Chairman of the Paddy Marketing Board, noted that 5 stores in Ampara District, 1 in Batticaloa District, 3 in the Eastern Province, and 3 in the Northern Province are currently open.
