Sri Lanka, Dec. 6 -- The latest report from the Disaster Management Center, issued at 6:00 PM, confirms that 607 lives perished and 214 people remain missing due to the floods and landslides ravaging the island.

The disaster affected all 25 districts, resulting in a crisis for 586,464 families, totaling over 2,082,000 individuals.

Whole communities saw displacement, with 4,164 homes destroyed and 67,505 partially damaged.

Thousands sought shelter in 1,211 safety centers, which are currently housing 43,715 families and 152,537 people.

The most severe impact occurred in the hill country:

Kandy leads with 232 deaths and 81 missing, along with 1,800 homes destroyed and 13,044 damaged.

Badulla reports 83 fatalities.
