Sri Lanka, April 21 -- The Court of Appeal has dismissed nearly 20 writ applications that challenged the rejection of nomination papers submitted for the upcoming local government elections, opting not to proceed with hearings for these cases.

This decision follows a series of applications filed by various political parties and independent groups seeking the re-acceptance of their nomination papers, which would have allowed them to contest in approximately 10 local government bodies.

Previously, when similar applications were brought before the court, directives were issued to Returning Officers in several districts to accept the contested nominations.
