Sri Lanka, Sept. 11 -- The Supreme Court has granted permission for a fundamental rights petition to proceed, which challenges the alleged misuse of over Rs. two million of electricity from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for the wedding celebrations of parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa in 2019.

The court's decision was delivered by Justices Preethi Padman Surasena and Achala Wengappuli.

The petition claims that electricity was used to light a 1.5-kilometre road leading to the wedding venue.

The petitioner argues this amounts to an abuse of state power.
