Sri Lanka, Sept. 4 -- The Court of Appeal has directed Sri Lanka Customs to release a consignment of 506 detained electric vehicles from the manufacturer BYD.
The decision was announced yesterday (03), following a petition filed by the importer, John Keells Holdings PLC.
The customs department's undertaking to the court is contingent on the importer providing additional bank guarantees for the vehicles.
The Customs had previously detained the cars over a dispute regarding their motor capacity declaration, which affects the calculation of import duties.
This marks the second time in recent months that the Court of Appeal has intervened to order the release of detained BYD vehicles.
