Srilanka, Nov. 19 -- The Court of Appeal today (19) ordered the Minister of Wildlife and several other officials to submit a comprehensive report to the court detailing the steps taken by the government to mitigate the human-elephant conflict.
This directive was issued by the Court of Appeal bench, consisting of Justices Damith Thotawatte and Sarath Dissanayake, after considering a motion filed in relation to a previously submitted Writ Petition by the Centre for Environmental Justice (CEJ).
The motion informed the court that although the CEJ had presented a series of proposals to the respondents aimed at reducing the human-elephant conflict, no effective action had been taken regarding those recommendations.
