Sri Lanka, Feb. 6 -- The Mount Lavinia District Court has ordered former SLPP MP C.B. Ratnayake to pay Rs. 250 million in compensation to SJB MP Sujeewa Senasinghe for defamation over comments made during a televised discussion on the Central Bank bond scam.

Delivering the verdict today (05), District Judge D.M. Kodithuwakku ruled in favor of Senasinghe, who had filed the case claiming that Ratnayake's statement on a private television network was defamatory.

President's Counsel Farhan Kasim represented Senasinghe, while President's Counsel Kushan de Alwis appeared for Ratnayake. The former MP has 14 days to file an appeal.
