Sri Lanka, April 28 -- Sri Lanka's Court of Appeal dismissed a writ application filed by former Minister Prasanna Ranaweera, who sought to prevent his arrest in connection with the alleged illegal acquisition of state-owned land.

The application was dismissed without hearing by a two-judge bench comprising Acting President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Mohammed Laffar Tahir, and Justice Priyantha Fernando.

The case pertains to government land located within the Kelaniya Divisional Secretariat.

Several individuals, including former Minister Mervyn Silva, are currently in remand custody on the orders of the Mahara Magistrate's Court in relation to the same matter.
