Sri Lanka, May 15 -- The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has revealed that a Cabinet paper proposing an organic fertiliser project worth Rs. 700 million by the Land Reform Commission in 2021 was submitted without any prior feasibility study.
This was disclosed during a recent COPE meeting held to examine the Auditor General's reports for the Land Reform Commission for 2022 and 2023, as well as its current performance.
Officials from the Land Reform Commission informed COPE that they were not involved in the preparation of this Cabinet paper.
Despite the approval of Rs. 700 million for the project, it was revealed that the Land Reform Commission had only released approximately Rs. 350 million.
