Sri Lanka, May 2 -- The cooling period for the mini-polls scheduled for May 6, will begin at midnight tomorrow.
Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Rathnayake stated during a press conference in Colombo today (2) that no candidate will be allowed to conduct any campaign activities during this time.
Meanwhile, police have arrested 38 candidates and 168 supporters for violating election laws.
They have also seized 36 vehicles.
Police have received 101 complaints of incidents of violence, and 388 complaints of legal violations related to the elections.
Police also seized a stock of mats and bed sheets, intended for distribution to voters, from a house in Adampan, Mannar.
The stocks contained 1,400 plastic mats and 1,400 bed sheets.
