Sri Lanka, Feb. 5 -- The construction sector in Sri Lanka needs a rapid transition from a state of mere survival to a phase of active growth, according to Vernon Manilal Fernando, the newly appointed Chairman of the Chamber of Construction Industry (CCI).

Highlighting the severe setbacks and liquidity issues faced by the field over the last six years, he outlined a strategic vision to rebuild the industry in the coming year.

The Chairman emphasised that construction should evolve beyond a domestic service into a foreign exchange earner by exporting engineering services to regional markets like the Maldives, East Africa, and the Middle East.
