Sri Lanka, July 23 -- The Constitutional Council will convene today (23) under the chairmanship of Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, to discuss the appointment of the next Chief Justice.
It is reported that President Anura Kumara Disanayake has nominated Supreme Court Judge Preethi Padman Surasena for the position.
The current Chief Justice, Murdhu Fernando, is scheduled to retire on the 27th of August. The individual selected will become Sri Lanka's 49th Chief Justice.
Cabinet Spokesman, Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, also commented on the matter during yesterday's Cabinet media briefing.
