Sri Lanka, Aug. 16 -- A new WhatsApp number introduced by Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya has already received over 2,000 complaints from the public.

The number, 071 859 88 88, was launched on August 13 to allow people to send messages, videos, and photos directly to the IGP to report crimes and other issues.

The Police Media Division has said that investigations into the complaints are already underway.
