Sri Lanka, Feb. 11 -- The inspection of crops damaged by the floods since November 26 last year and the payment of compensation have now commenced.

The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board stated that Rs. 114 million has been released for 6,239 farmers in the Polonnaruwa district. The process of crediting funds for recommended crop damage applications from Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Trincomalee districts has also begun.

So far, Rs. 70 million has been distributed to 3,272 farmers for 4,324 acres of damaged crops, while Rs. 122 million was credited yesterday to 8,705 farmers for 7,657 acres of affected cultivation in the Ampara district.
