Sri Lanka, Dec. 21 -- Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation, Anura Karunathilaka, has announced urgent measures to clear a massive backlog of approximately 8,000 containers currently awaiting clearance.

During a high-level meeting at the Ministry premises, it was decided that the clearance process would be fast-tracked under the direct supervision of Sri Lanka Customs.

A particular focus will be placed on "low-risk" containers, which are being redirected to the newly established Bloemendhal Logistics Park, to ease the pressure on main terminal areas.

The Minister also scheduled a follow-up review meeting in four days.
