Sri Lanka, April 30 -- The Colombo High Court has postponed proceedings in the 2016 'hit-and-run' case involving former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka and two others, until July 25.

The case was heard today, during which the representatives of the defence requested a delay, citing ongoing legal proceedings related to an appeal.

They argued that how the case was filed by the Attorney General was contrary to Sri Lankan law, and a decision on this appeal is still pending.

The charges stem from a car accident in 2016, in which a young man was critically injured in the Rajagiriya area.

Former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka and his driver, Dilum Thusitha Kumara, are accused of attempting to cover up the incident.
