Sri Lanka, June 23 -- The Coconut Cultivation Board has launched a new programme, named Coconut Fortnight, to control pests harmful to coconut cultivation, including the whitefly.

The first phase of this initiative is set to begin in the Jaffna region on July 14, according to Dr. Sunimal Jayakody, Chairman of the Coconut Cultivation Board.

Under this programme, all coconut trees will be thoroughly washed using water jet machines to combat the pest infestation.
