Sri Lanka, July 12 -- A heated situation erupted between residents and the police in Koomankulam, Vavuniya, following a fatal motorcycle crash near the Muthumari Amman Kovil.

Residents allege that the crash occurred because the police were pursuing the motorcycle.

During the ensuing confrontation, five police officers were injured and admitted to Medawachchiya Hospital.

However, when contacted by Hiru News, the police stated that initially, two traffic police officers went to the scene after receiving information that a motorcyclist had fallen by the roadside.

Upon their arrival, the crowd at the scene assaulted the two officers, leading more police personnel to respond to the location.
