Sri Lanka, Sept. 1 -- The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched a special investigation into the circulation of fake news and photos on social media that are defamatory to the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Ananda Wijepala.

The investigation was initiated after defamatory and malicious news and images were fabricated and published on social media platforms in relation to an event at the airport.

The minister had attended to commend police officers who had successfully brought back drug traffickers and organised criminals who were in hiding in Indonesia.
