Sri Lanka, Aug. 10 -- A 9-year-old child died in a house fire in the Mahawatta area of Balangoda.

The child's mother and her paramour have been taken into police custody over the incident.

The fire broke out in the early hours of yesterday (9).

The deceased has been identified as Mohamed Nashaz Risaz.

His post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted at the Balangoda Hospital this morning.

According to police investigations, the fire was the result of a family dispute.

The child's mother had left the house with her paramour after an argument with the child's father the previous night.

The father, a drug addict, then left the child alone at home to look for the mother.
