Sri Lanka, May 28 -- An explosion at the Shandong Youdao Chemical plant in Weifang, Shandong Province, China, has resulted in the deaths of at least five people.

Another 19 individuals were injured, and six are reported missing, according to foreign media.

The incident occurred on May 27, minutes before noon.

The Chinese State Emergency Management Department dispatched more than 200 rescuers to the scene to manage the aftermath of the explosion.

The Youdao plant is situated in an industrial zone that also hosts textile, machinery, and paint manufacturing enterprises, increasing the risks to surrounding infrastructure and local residents.
