Sri Lanka, Sept. 15 -- All trade unions of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) announced that they will intensify their ongoing strike, effective today (15), in opposition to the government's proposal to split the CEB into four entities.

The Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers' Union (CEBEU) and its affiliated unions initially planned a three-phase strike, which began with a 'work-to-rule' action on September 4.

Eleven days have passed since the strike began, but the CEBEU says authorities have not initiated discussions to address their concerns.

The union plans to announce the next phase and potential escalation of the strike following discussions scheduled for this afternoon.
