Srilanka, Feb. 15 -- The Archbishop of Colombo has warned that a systematic collapse of the family unit is posing a grave threat to Sri Lankan society. Speaking at the annual festival of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Kalutara, His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith described the rising rate of marital instability as a "dangerous epidemic" sweeping the nation.
The Cardinal argued that the strength of the country is directly linked to the stability of the home, noting that the family remains the fundamental building block of any successful community.
He expressed particular concern regarding the casual nature of modern relationships, stating:
