Sri Lanka, Feb. 24 -- Three individuals sustained severe injuries after a car returning from Sri Pada pilgrimage veered off the road and fell into a 100-foot precipice. Norton Bridge Police state the incident occurred around 3:30 PM today (23) near the 3rd Mile Post on the Norton Bridge-Laxapana road.
The vehicle was traveling toward Avissawella when it left the roadway. Following the incident, the injured parties were admitted to Laxapana Hospital, with two later transferred to the Nawalapitiya Base Hospital for intensive care.
Police suspect the driver falling asleep at the wheel caused the crash. Norton Bridge Police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
