Sri Lanka, July 2 -- The Cabinet has voted to go ahead with awarding scholarships for Sri Lankan students to study abroad.

The government had allocated Rs.200 million in the 2025 budget to provide scholarships for top performers of the G.C.E. A Level exam, to pursue their first degree at foreign universities.

Scholarships will cover up to 4 years at universities ranked among the top 500 globally that offer courses in English.

In the first phase, 20 to 50 students will be selected for 2025, with plans to eventually award scholarships to 200 students.

Applications are open to students with the highest Z-scores in the main subject streams of the G.C.E. (A/L).
