Sri Lanka, Sept. 9 -- The Cabinet has approved amendments to the Sri Lanka Press Council Act No. 5 of 1973, according to Minister of Health and Mass Media, Chief Government Whip, and Cabinet Spokesperson Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa. He made this announcement today (09) at a media briefing held at the Government Information Department to announce Cabinet decisions.

The Minister stated that the current Press Council Act has not been updated to reflect modern social and cultural trends. He highlighted that with the rapid expansion of the internet and social media, which have a significant impact on people's lives, it is crucial to amend the Act accordingly to be more relevant to the digital age.
