Sri Lanka, Feb. 6 -- Authorities at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) arrested a 26-year-old Sri Lankan businessman and two accomplices in connection with the smuggling of "Kush" cannabis valued at over 21 million rupees. The primary suspect, a resident of Manipay who frequently travels abroad, was intercepted upon his arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, early yesterday (06) morning.
The Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) discovered 2.116 kilograms of the narcotic concealed within a false bottom of the suspect's luggage. Following a brief interrogation, officials conducted a follow-up operation near a supermarket in Negombo, where they apprehended two additional suspects waiting to transport the shipment to Mannar.
