Sri Lanka, Feb. 3 -- A businessman from the Makola area was ordered by Mahara Additional Magistrate Bandara Ilangasinghe yesterday (2) to pay a fine of Rs. 100,000 after pleading guilty to selling local Keeri Samba rice above the maximum retail price.
While the controlled price for a kilogram of local Keeri Samba rice is set at Rs. 260, court proceedings revealed that the merchant sold the product at a higher rate.
Investigations into the matter were conducted by officers from the Gampah District Office of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) under the direction of District Head Udaya Namalgama.
