Sri Lanka, July 16 -- A Sri Lankan passenger was arrested by airport customs at Katunayake Airport earlier today (16).

He was attempting to smuggle in a large quantity of "Kush" drugs, valued at Rs. 31 million, and tried to exit through the airport's red channel for businessmen.

The suspect is reportedly a 48-year-old vegetable vendor from the Mattakkuliya area.

Investigations have revealed that he had purchased 50 folding umbrellas with capsule-shaped containers in Thailand, and after removing the umbrellas from 20 of them, had concealed 3 kilogrammes and 117 grammes of Kush inside the containers.

Our airport correspondent reported that a strong stench spread through the airport premises after the drugs were uncovered.
