Sri Lanka, July 4 -- Bus fares in Sri Lanka have been reduced by 0.55% starting today (4), in line with the annual fare revision.

Initially, the National Transport Commission had announced a 2.5% reduction in bus fares effective from July 01.

However, due to the Rs. 15 increase in diesel prices on July 01, the Commission stated that the fare reduction could only be adjusted to 0.55%.

Under the new fare structure, the minimum bus fare for normal services, which is Rs. 27, the second fare stage of Rs. 35, and the Rs. 45 fare will remain unchanged.

Several other fare stages, including Rs. 56, Rs. 77, Rs. 87, Rs. 117, Rs. 136, and Rs. 141, will see a one-rupee reduction.
