Sri Lanka, May 1 -- Commuters can expect no immediate relief in public transport fares despite the recent decrease in fuel prices.

Both bus and three-wheeler associations have announced that fares will not be revised at this time. Gemunu Wijeratne, President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association, stated that the 12-rupee reduction in the price of diesel is insufficient to warrant a fare cut. He further noted that the annual bus fare revision is scheduled for July. Echoing this sentiment, Sudil Jayaruk, President of the All Ceylon Three-Wheeler Owners' and Drivers' Association, confirmed that three-wheeler fares will also remain unchanged.
