Sri Lanka, Sept. 11 -- A heated exchange occurred in Parliament today (11) after the Leader of the House, Bimal Ratnayake, referred to opposition members as 'Lapai Sipai'.

The comment sparked a protest from the opposition, who demanded that he retract his statement.

The Speaker intervened, announcing that the controversial words would be expunged from the official record.

In his defence, Mr Ratnayake pointed out that opposition members frequently use unparliamentary language against the Speaker without ever withdrawing their remarks.
