Sri Lanka, Nov. 2 -- Farmers cultivating local big onions across several regions continue to face significant hardship due to the lack of a fair market price for their produce. Although the government introduced a mechanism through the state-owned enterprise Sathosa to purchase big onions at Rs. 140 per kilogramme as a solution, this price point has been met with strong opposition from the farming community.
The farmers are urgently demanding that the government guarantee a minimum price of at least Rs. 220 to Rs. 240 per kilogram.
