Sri Lanka, Sept. 5 -- The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has raised concerns over incidents of threatening legal action or filing complaints against lawyers for their professional work on behalf of clients.

In a statement, the BASL emphasised that the independent role of a lawyer is to professionally represent a client's rights and interests within the framework of the law.

It also cited a Supreme Court judgment where a person was convicted for making false representations against a lawyer, as this directly impacted the system of the administration of justice.

The BASL called on all stakeholders to act with restraint and responsibility.
