Sri Lanka, May 28 -- The Sri Lanka Bar Association has filed a Fundamental Rights petition before the Supreme Court, seeking a ruling that the death of Charith Dilshan Dayananda, a second-year student at the Faculty of Technology, Sabaragamuwa University, due to a severe ragging incident, constitutes a violation of fundamental rights.
The petition also requests the Supreme Court to order a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
Additionally, the petition seeks an order directing authorities to formulate a programme to eradicate ragging within universities and other state educational institutions.
The petition was filed by Bar Association President Attorney-at-Law Rajeev Amarasuriya and Secretary Chathura Galhena.
