Sri Lanka, May 27 -- Bangladesh's de-facto Prime Minister, Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus, 84, has reportedly threatened to step down if political parties fail to agree on crucial reforms.

This deepens the uncertainty in the nation following last year's deadly protests that led to the ousting of then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Nahid Islam, head of the newly formed National Citizen Party (NCP), stated that Yunus found it difficult to work without the backing of political parties.

"He was visibly upset," Islam told reporters after meeting the leader.

"He said if he cannot do the work he was asked to do - reform the system and prepare for fair elections - then he may have to leave. He feels trapped between demands from different ...
