Sri Lanka, Jan. 16 -- The hunger strike initiated by Venerable Balangoda Kassapa Thero in Trincomalee prison was temporarily called off until January 19, the next scheduled court date. National Freedom Front (NFF) leader and former Minister Wimal Weerawansa shared this information after visiting the monk at the Trincomalee remand prison this morning.

The monk decided to suspend his protest following advice from the Chief Prelate of Arisimale Aranya Senasana, Venerable Panamure Tilakawansha Thero. While the monk previously refused meals to protest his detention, he informed visitors that the strike remains halted only until the upcoming legal proceedings.
