Australia secured a dominant innings-and-242-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test in Galle, retaining the Warne-Muralidaran Trophy.

After rain interruptions on day three, Australia wasted no time on day four, taking 15 wickets to wrap up the match inside nine sessions. Sri Lanka, bowled out for 165 in the first innings, was forced to follow on but could only manage 247 in the second.

Josh Inglis starred with a debut century, while Matthew Kuhnemann took nine wickets across both innings. Nathan Lyon also contributed with figures of 4 for 78 in the second innings.
