Albanese had initially planned to call for an April election, aiming to capitalize on positive economic news regarding interest rates. However, Cyclone Alfred forced him to delay those plans and focus on disaster response.
His government has faced multiple challenges during its term, including economic pressures, rising living costs, foreign conflicts, and national divisions. Despite this, Albanese highlighted achievements such as wage growth and reduced inflation, comparing the progress to "landing a 747 on a helicopter pad."
