Sri Lanka, April 17 -- The auspicious time for leaving for work following the Sinhala and Tamil New Year holidays falls today (17) at 9.03 am.

According to traditional customs, it is advisable to wear golden-coloured attire, consume milk rice and sweets mixed with cow's milk, and depart facing the North.

Meanwhile, the National Transport Commission is implementing a special traffic plan for expressways starting today to facilitate the return of people who travelled to their hometowns for the New Year to Colombo and other urban areas.

Special bus and train services are also operating today, with the Sri Lanka Transport Board deploying an additional 300 buses.
