Sri Lanka, Feb. 19 -- Former Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka has accused the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) of conspiring to curtail renewable energy, particularly solar power.
He made these remarks while commenting on the findings of the CEB's investigation into the recent collapse of the national power system.
The CEB report states that at the time of the outage on the 9th, over 50% of the country's electricity demand was met by 800 megawatts of solar power, alongside 470 megawatts from the Norochcholai power plant and 130 megawatts from hydroelectric plants. However, a voltage drop due to a fault at the Panadura power grid substation triggered a system-wide blackout.
