Sri Lanka, Aug. 27 -- Sri Lanka's Welfare Benefits Board says the monthly allowance for low-income elderly citizens over the age of 70 has been credited to bank accounts today.
According to the board, a total of 599,730 beneficiaries are eligible to receive the August payment.
Authorities have allocated Rs. 2.99 billion for this month's distribution.
The allowance is part of a wider welfare programme aimed at supporting vulnerable families across the country amid continuing economic pressures.
